About Blair

Blair grew up on his parents’ family farm in South West Victoria, where he attended local public schools.

His father was a teacher for four decades and his mother worked in the disability sector. It was their passion for social justice and for their community that inspired Blair to join the Labor Party when he was 16.

After school, Blair studied Law and Arts at Monash University, where he met his wife Catherine in 2000.

After graduating in 2005, Blair practiced law briefly before starting work for a country Labor MP.

In 2011 Blair and Catherine moved to Adelaide where Blair worked as Chief of Staff to then Education Minister Jennifer Rankine and then as Deputy Chief of Staff to Premier Jay Weatherill, focussing on education, child protection, industrial relations and emergency services.

Blair believes that a high quality, accessible and affordable public education system is critical to achieving a more equitable South Australia. He also firmly believes that meaningful, dignified work is the cornerstone of our society and should be attainable for all people, regardless of their background or means.

In March 2018 Blair was elected Member of Parliament for the seat of Wright, and two months later was appointed Shadow Assistant Minister for Health and Wellbeing by Labor Leader Peter Malinauskas.

In September 2020 Blair was appointed to the critical shadow portfolios of Education, Skills and Training, and Veterans’ Affairs.

Blair and Catherine live in the North East with their three daughters. In his spare time Blair enjoys playing basketball, watching footy, listening to music, bike riding with his daughters and volunteering with the Salisbury SES Unit.

In March 2022 Blair was appointed the South Australian Minister for Education, Training & Skills in the new Malinauskus Labor Government.
